If you could imagine, a castle drenched in sun, a place in which many hands, turn the wheel of one
Once inside the gates, the meadows are a glow, poppies, sage, peaches and rose; alchemy for a foe

In the redwood forests of northern California, there lives a utopic ideal that has not yet been laid to rest; Salmon Creek Farm.

Originally Central Pomo land, it became a commune in the 1970’s where all members hand-built their own shelters to live in.

It is often said that the idyllic dreams of hippie communities of the past failed. However, perhaps those who believe that never really understood that these temporary sanctuaries did indeed serve their purpose in their own time, never meaning to last forever, in accordance with time and change itself.

Although it is no longer a functioning commune, today it functions as a queer run arts non-profit, keeping the spirit of community alive.

These photographs are documents of my time in retreat there, in community with the other guests on the land, attempting to highlight the ideals upon which the space was founded.
