BIOGRAPHY

Elizabeth Celeste Ibarra is a second generation Colombian-American artist, practicing photography and music, based in the Hudson Valley & Catskill region of New York.

In her photographs, Ibarra documents and examines identity and culture within what she finds most sacred: the earth, family, community, the feminine, and justice. She photographs her own experiences, reflecting themes of personal and collective trauma. In her images, she chooses to focus on the beauty amidst conflict. Despite the tension from what the photographs document, they still emanate a sense of calm and spaciousness. These contemplative moments provide a sense of intimacy between the viewer and the subject, pulling the viewer further into the world of the photograph. She works in conversation with the subjects, communicating their stories to the viewer.

Her music project, Camp Saint Helene, released their sophomore record, Of Earth and its Timely Delights in 2024 via Misery Mother, a record label they founded. They were also featured on a compilation record, Cosmic Waves Volume 1., released by Angel Olsen via somethingscosmic / Jagjaguwar the same year. This compilation included their single, Wonder Now as well as “Farfisa Song” covered by Angel Olsen.

“Farfisa Song”, off their debut record Mother (2019), was named KEXP’s Song of the Day and added to KEXP Music that Matters Vol. 683 by Cheryl Waters. She describes Camp Saint Helene as “..call[ing] to mind the '60s California folk scene with their gentle, waltz-like pastoral sound”. Additionally, “Farfisa Song” was featured predominantly both in Amazon Prime’s teen horror drama, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (2022) and Zoe Lister-Jones’ series SLIP on The Roku Channel (2023). Mother was named by Bandcamp as a New and Notable record of 2019, describing it as “Occult-folk in the 70’s U.K. tradition that further affirms the link between Appalachian and British folk songs”.

Ibarra received a B.F.A. in Photography and Imaging from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University in 2015. In 2022, she was invited to create a solo photographic exhibition and live performance at Basilica Hudson in Hudson, NY. In 2023, Camp Saint Helene  was commissioned by NADA x Foreland to present a live performance and installation piece titled “Into the Garden” for Upstate Art Weekend in Catskill, NY.
